Description

A waterbed cap and seal (also frequently called a pull cap and plug) is a universal two-piece safety system designed to secure a waterbed mattress’s fill valve. It acts as the primary defense against internal air pockets and water leaks by creating a completely air-tight and water-tight pressure seal.

System Components & Anatomy
The replacement kit includes two separate plastic parts that stack together into the valve neck:
  • The Seal (Plug / Bung): A flexible, rubberized stopper or flat-rimmed plug. It is inserted directly into the raw opening of the mattress valve first, pushing deep into the neck to block the primary column of water and air.
  • The Screw Cap: A rigid, threaded outer cap featuring integrated finger pull tabs or handles. This piece screws tightly over the external threads of the mattress valve neck, securely locking the inner stopper down against active mattress shifting or body weight pressure
Proper Installation Steps
  1. Burp the Bed: Before sealing, roll a cardboard tube or broomstick gently across the mattress toward the open valve neck to push out trapped air bubbles.
  2. Seat the Plug: Insert the flexible seal/plug firmly down into the inner core of the valve neck until it sits flush.
  3. Thread the Cap: Spin the threaded cap clockwise onto the outer valve casing until it is hand-tight. Avoid using tools like pliers, which will crack the plastic threads.
  4. Recess the Valve: Push the entire sealed valve neck downward so it sits flush inside the mattress cavity, ensuring it doesn’t poke up against your sheets

Pro-tip: When removing an old cap and plug, pull up evenly using both handles on the pull tabs. Pulling straight up by a single side with force can snap the plastic tabs off entirely
